Genres : Roots/Vodou

Fanmi Asòtò is a Haitian cultural organization whose drum performance, community workshops, and herbal teachings are rooted in Vodou. Paying homage to the asòtò drum, the mother of all African descended drums, our mission is to encourage identity building for all Haitians but particularly for Haitian American youth who are the next generation of Haitian culture and Vodou. Created in 2014 by Sirene Dantor Sainvil, with the support of her husband and master drummer Jean Guy “Fanfan” Rene, Fanmi Asòtò seeks to develop a sense of pride within the Haitian community in a way that people of all backgrounds can be attracted to.

Fanmi Asòtò is officially consisted of myself, Sirene Dantor, Jean Guy “Fanfan” Rene, Yatande Boko, Ernst Junior LeBlanc, and Pitterson Georges. This family is extended through the consistent partnerships and support we get from Veroneque Ignace, Mahalia Stines, and Menesky Magloire.
Why Fanmi Asòtò?

In everything that Fanmi Asòtò does we pay homage to the asòtò drum. This drum is known as the mother of all African descended drums. It the musical pillar around which community gathers. For this reason, Fanmi Asòtò encourages community to understand the importance and purpose of the drum in all cultures, and especially Haitian culture. From our drum and song workshops to our ritual performances, we seek to build a sense of connectedness through the power of the drum and Vodou.
