Baylavwa

ARTIST/BAND /GROUP INFORMATION

Born In/Current Location : France
Occupation(s) : Vocal Group
Genres : Caribbean Jazz

After his remarkable tribute to Cole Porter and the concerts and festivals with the group of singers formed for the occasion in 2007, Jean-Paul Elysée takes the game and decides to perpetuate the experience. This training, now run-in to the exercise, is called: “BAYLAVWA”. It remains to initiate a new project which the group will appropriate. It quickly becomes obvious. The project will revisit, on the format tested for “Vocal Porter” (5 voices and a double bass), standards, traditional or more contemporary from the Caribbean repertoire.

It was in fact Mario Canonge who first inspired her with the idea, then Ralph Thamar finished convincing her. It is therefore very natural that the first title chosen is “Peyi mwen Jodi”, then Ralph willingly agrees to lend his voice to the resumption of “Maladie d’amour” by Léona Gabriel-Soïme made famous by Henri Salvador. After a year and a half of hard work, thanks to the help of friends like Thierry Vaton, Dédé Saint-Prix and many others, 13 titles, including 2 originals are recorded. Ambition? To spread around the world a certain idea of the Caribbean and its culture.
