The Ragga-Konpa-style group, “Black Parents” took the Haitian music business to new heights in the year 2000 when the group released its debut album “Sensualite” with the hit “Vini-m Pale-w Cheri”. The album quickly rose to the top of the Konpa charts in Haiti, Montreal, New York, Paris and the Antilles.

Black Parents wasn’t an immediate success in the club scene in their hometown. They struggled to secure larger gigs by performing in local night clubs in Montreal, Canada. During the time the market in Canada was slow and if you wanted to make it, you had to be playing Konpa.

Black Parents being no novice to the industry had the leverage of coming from a musical family; their predecessor, Les Frères Parents’ music and lyrics were more politically driven, which prompt the younger Parents to create their own blueprint.

Black Parents made their presence felt by popularizing the latest trend in Haitian music with a lot of reggae influence. The group’s lyrics were more fun driven. Their hard work did not go in vain; soon enough, success in the form of more airplay and loyal fans started coming their way from Miami, New York and Haiti and more.
