Blain, Pierre

ARTIST/BAND /GROUP INFORMATION

Pierre Blain started out in music at a very young age. In the 1940s, the flame of prejudice against the profession of music was burning brightly in Haitian families. The musician was described as a vagabond. However, like other icons of local music: Guy Durosier, Issa El Saieh, Webert Sicot, Nemours Jean Baptiste, Ulrich Pierre-Louis to name but a few, Pierre Blain has managed to hold and produce enriching music. in a very hostile environment.

Pierre Blain’s talent had no limit. He is a singer who has the ability to interpret all types of music: Salsa, Slow Meringues, Bossa nova, Direct Compass and Haitian Folklore. Pierre knows how to innovate. The best quality of an artist! With his nasal and melodious voice, Pierre Blain has developed his original way of capturing and transmitting his musical notes. He thus indicated a new line to Haitian music.

Adulated in a foreign land

Pierre Blain lived in Cuba in 1948, where he played in the Chepin Choven orchestra. In 1962, Pierre emigrated to Martinique. During his long stay (1962-1987) in the French West Indies and in Paris, Pierre Blain worked in respective orchestras: Haiti Combo, Les Etoiles (Martinique) and Makumba Carnaval (Paris) as well as those of Raymond Sicot, Gais troubadours de Louis Lahens, and Robert Sarkis’s Caribbean, recalled Maestro Jean Jean-Pierre.

Pierre Blain joined the ranks of Jazz des Jeunes in 1952. He was only 20 years old. Pierre has forged a relationship of love and prodigal son with this legendary orchestra of Haitian music. The singer was present during the resumption of the activities of the Jazz des Jeunes in 2007.

The artist had a happy experience with Nemours Jean-Baptiste. Pierre Blain, who recorded several albums with Le Grand Orchester de Frantz Courtois, participated in the first edition of Haitiando in the early 2000s. His participation also in one of Réginald Policard’s records was remarkable.

Pierre Blain does not only benefit from posthumous tributes. President René Préval honored the artist on December 22, 2007, during a Jazz des Jeunes concert at the Champs de Mars. Pierre Blain was made “Grand Officer of the National Order of Honor and Merit”.
