Born in Gros Morne, Haiti on April 27, 1950, Georges Loubert Chancy is the son of Oreste Chancy (guitarist) and Rosette Vernet. Because of their exquisite sense of family, this couple raised, raised eight children in peace and serenity. Besides, Loubert wanted to be a priest but, it seems that God had another mission for him. In him always lies the feeling of having access to the priesthood. If tomorrow he declares on Radio Gouadeloupe we grant permission to priests to marry, he will not hesitate to walk this path. But, for the present quarter of an hour, Guerlain, one of his little brothers is the priest of the family.

It was at Carlo Paillant at Carrefour that Loubert touched a saxophone for the first time on December 21, 1968. On December 31 of that same year, after a few rehearsals, Schiller, Ti Joe, Frantz Numa, Michel Désir and others chose him as Saxophonist of the Carrefour Consuls. On January 1, 1969, the group ‘Les Fantaisistes De Carrefour invited’ Les Consuls’ to perform two pieces in a fair that they hosted at Les Frères Polycarpe in Waney. Incredible, but true; in a week, Loubert already understood the tessitura and the dynamics of the sax.

After Les Consuls de Carrefour, the managers of the group “Les Gars de Sainte Cécile” are calling on his services to be much more competitive. However, he did not stay long with them, because his reputation began to flourish on the market.

During the summer of 1970, Fitot Sadraque left Shleu Shleu: Serge Rosental sent for Loubert and Au Rond Point Night Club on the first August 1970, he played his first ball. During this evening, he aroused a thrill of joy by interpreting the melodies of Tony Moise and Rosenthal so that he received compliments and applause from the crowd. Who would have thought that in such a short time, Loubert would pick up so much laurels?

Eyewitness to Loubert’s initiation to the saxophone, a few months before leaving Haiti, I attended one of his prestattions with the group at Fontamara 2, at Eddy and Roro Polas. In that evening, I remember seeing KeloKe dancing Isuzu, the brand new dance of the summer season 1970. That evening, I danced ‘Machan Yo, Ke map Kembe, Ma Poupée and Kompa X until pipirite singing because, like the other, I had a date with the sun.

Loubert worked with the second generation of the Shleu Shleu, under the aegis of the maestro Serge Rosenthal from 1970 to 1974. He printed five discs in concert with the following musicians: Jean Michel Saint Victor, Jean Ely Telfort, singers, Joseph Mario Mayala and Johny Frantz Toussaint, Accompanist guitarists, Frederic Mews, bass player, Yves Arsène Appolon, drummer, Jacques Yves Baptiste, Tam – Tam and Gerald Désir drummer. However, all these records will be digitized during the years 1990-1991 by Fred Paul of Mini Records. They are: Bald Head, Shleu Shleu Sixth Anniversary, Se la w ye, Shleu Shleu Ace Frappe and Succès Des Shleu Shleu in Paris.

In June 1974, Loubert and some of the Shleu Shleu musicians left Haiti abroad with the support of Rodrigue Milien of Kombit Kreyol. They landed in New York and after a few weeks, they gave birth to The Skah Shah.

Loubert Meets Dernst Emile

Nourished by perpetual ideas which stimulate his creative and imaginative capacity, Loubert again meets Dernst Emile in Brooklyn. With Dernst, Loubert worked on his concepts of arrangement and composition. By working with Dernst, he broadens his horizons and merges improvisation with the warmth of the timbre at the rhythms and sounds that suit. In addition, the fluidity of his musical phrases embellished with tenderness and hope dissipates the darkness and heals the wounds of time.

In 1978, Rotel Records presented to the general public a microsillon titled Skah Shah # 1 “Méssage”. In this album, Méssage, Pour Demain, Yaveh, three compositions by Loubert are included (RR3380).

In 1980, Loubert launched his first solo album titled “Doudou”. Everyone thought he was talking to his little brother. However, this message had no connection or relationship with Jacques Ardouin Chancy who manipulated the alto sax and blew blue and treble notes in the shade of his older brother. Jacques Ardouin Chancy (Doudou) already enjoyed a good reputation in Haiti. During the same year, Loubert engraved with Skah Shah for Mini Records, Skah Shah # 1, For Ever, featuring Hey Ma fille, one of his compositions, arrangement by Dernst Emile. In this same album, he wrote the lyrics to ‘Sentiment’; he also arranged it there. It doesn’t stop there, he really demonstrated a proven musician by embellishing La Vie A belle and in concert with Dernst Emile,

In 1983, Don Fred and Skah-Shah join to present Skah Shah # 1 “On the Move ‘. We also observed ‘Senorita Gina’, a composition by Loubert JD 1839-2).

In 1985 Peace And Love, Loubert Chancy’s second solo album, was released. This disc, he dedicated it to his wife Guirlaine and his children JD 1839-12).

First rupture of the Skah Shah

In 1990, on the Mélodies Makers label, Loubert aroused his emotions and stimulated ours through the songs engraved on his third solo album ‘Loubert Chancy And Friends’. He offered us two versions of L’An 2004, a vocal and an instrumental then, Cry For Freedom and Souvenirs.

With the group Bazouka whose members were former musicians of the Skah Shah consolidated by guitarist Edouard Richard, Loubert produced two audio-digital discs.

As part of the first reconciliation or ‘Skah Shah # 1 / Au Complet as indicated by CD volume 3, Loubert and Skah Shah performed at Café Des Arts and in other nightclubs in 1996. On the spot, they recorded several digital audio discs ..

2003 Reconciliation of Skah Shah members
At the repeated request of fans in search of well-arranged melodies, the members of Skah Shah number 1 reconcile not only to honor the request of their fans, but also, and especially, to celebrate the two hundred years of Haitian independence. At the Crystal Palace, the musicians of SkahShah played their first sold out ball on November 27, 2003. They visited Haȉti to celebrate independence and thank our ancestors for this gem they have left for us. In addition, in October 2004, Loubert and his brother musicians made all the lighthouses of the City of Light shine. In December 2007, he visited Haȉti with The Skah Shah and performed with his little brother, Jacques, (Doudou Chancy) on tenor sax in the garden of the national television of Haiti.

2009 NuShah Training

In 2009, Loubert erected NuShah with Jean Michel Saint Victor Zouzoul), Rodrigue Gauthier (Ti Crane), Patrick Parole, André Désjean, Eddy Alexandre, Kesnel Jean Philippe etc.

In 2012, Loubert was very involved in his diocese. As a chorister, he strives to participate in the activities of the Sainte Philomène choir; his parish.
