Established in Montreal for a decade, Wesli has established himself as one of the most gifted Haitian songwriters of recent decades. With this new album “ImmiGrand Deluxe”, Wesli, singer, multi-instrumentalist and committed producer, wishes to remind us that immigration is both a cultural and economic wealth and who better than him coming from Haiti and immigrating to Canada 15 years ago to tell us! Fully aware of the social, environmental and poverty issues in Haiti, Wesli delivers positive messages to us, filled with pride, solidarity and contagious hope. He draws on his roots and invites us on an intercultural journey, with plural identities, and towards an inevitable crossbreeding that characterizes his adopted country and his island of origin!

Born in Port-au-Prince (Haiti) on September 6, 1980, Wesley Louissaint made his first guitar at the age of 8. Raised in a family of 7 children, music is at the center of their family life and represents an escape that allows him to survive the misery he faces on a daily basis.

Wesli continues his musical adventure by integrating the “gospel” choir of the local church and devotes his free time to perfecting his instrumental practice. His unfailing commitment to music and his hard work allow him to integrate from adolescence groups such as the Jazz quartet 4ever and SoKute with whom he will record his first album Horizon. SoKute’s soul music is very successful in Haiti and allows Wesli to become known abroad. He subsequently performed in many theaters in Haiti and accompanied the company Kreyol Mizik on an international tour.

It was in 2001 that Wesli adopted Canada as a land of welcome. He works in Montreal with the Productions Nuits d’Afrique team and participates in various major festivals as a musician including the Francofolies, the Montreal International Jazz Festival through Calgary, the Franco-Fête de Toronto, Folk Music Festival de Vancouver, Festival du Voyageur in Winnipeg, APAP in New York and Babel Med Music or Afrikadey!

Wesli works as a guitarist for the greatest artists of Caribbean music, including Jacky Rapon, Lea Galva, Jocelyn Delormeau, Thierry Cham, Leila Chico, Sonia Dersion and the late Edith Lefel. In Montreal, he was the guitarist of Lorraine Klaasen, Lilison Di Kinara, Gage, Inword, Nathalie Choquette, and he accompanies big names in African music such as Sekouba Bambino and Monique Seka.

Wesli and his band played in particular in the first part of Tiken Jah Fakoly, Magic System at the Olympia in Montreal, as well as in the first part of Alpha Blondy at the Metropolis. Since 2008, Wesli and his band have performed regularly on more than 50 of Canada’s biggest festival stages, providing around 30 shows each summer and appearing in numerous radio and television shows including Belle et Bum, Des and Studio 12. ..Singer and multi-instrumentalist, Wesli ensures the direction and artistic production of several projects including Sénaya (Garde la tête haute, 2005) and Sara Rénélik (Aube, 2006) and acts as musical director for the Line 1 troupe.

Rich with an important musical experience and an atypical life course, Wesli, singer, multi-instrumentalist and committed producer released his first album as a solo artist in 2009 “Kouraj”. He delivers rich music that is both festive, original and catchy. “Kouraj” evokes the misery that continues in Haiti, in several countries of the West Indies, Africa and elsewhere, social-political and environmental issues that arise from this misery and the courage that must continue to be maintained. The colorful arrangements, the presence of African instruments (the Cora, the Balafon, the Calabash, the Talking Drum) and Haitian percussions (Manman tambou, Segon, Kata), the guitar and saxophone solos come to intensify and illustrate the words. of this project which is both entertaining and demanding.

Described as an “exemplary achievement fashioned with paltry means”, the album was rated 4 stars in Voir magazine and was nominated in the World Music Album of the Year category at the 2009 Canadian Folk Music Awards.

Wesli becomes one of the most promising Montreal artists: “one of the main striking forces in the Montreal world: perhaps even the most promising artist for the international arena. »2. He composed, with Arianne Moffat, Nomadic Massive and Doba, the song “Nap chante pou Ayiti” in the aftermath of the earthquake in Haiti on January 12, 2010.

Établi à Montréal depuis une décennie, Wesli s’affirme comme l’un des auteurs-compositeurs haïtiens les plus doués de ces dernières décennies. Avec ce nouvel album « ImmiGrand Deluxe », Wesli, chanteur, multi-instrumentiste et producteur engagé, souhaite nous rappeler que l’immigration est une richesse à la fois culturelle et économique et qui mieux que lui venant d’Haiti et immigrant au Canada il y a 15 ans pour nous le dire! Pleinement conscient des enjeux sociaux, environnementaux et de la misère en Haïti, Wesli nous livre des messages positifs, emplis de fierté, de solidarité et d’un espoir contagieux. Il puise dans ses racines et nous invite à un voyage interculturel, aux identités plurielles, et vers un métissage inéluctable qui caractérise son pays d’adoption et son île d’origine !

Son engagement sans faille pour la musique et son travail acharné lui permettent d’intégrer dès l’adolescence des groupes tels que le quatuor Jazz 4ever et SoKute avec qui il enregistrera son premier album Horizon. La musique soul de SoKute rencontre un franc succès en Haïti et permet à Wesli de se faire connaître à l’étranger. Il se produit par la suite dans de nombreuses salles de spectacles en Haïti et accompagne la compagnie Kreyol Mizik lors d’une tournée internationale.

C’est en 2001 que Wesli adopte le Canada comme terre d’accueil. Il travaille à Montréal avec l’équipe des Productions Nuits d’Afrique et participe à divers grands festivals en tant que musicien dont les Francofolies, le Festival international de jazz de Montréal en passant par Calgary, la Franco-Fête de Toronto, le Folk Music Festival de Vancouver, le Festival du Voyageur de Winnipeg, l’APAP de New York et le Babel Med Music ou encore Afrikadey!

Wesli travaille en tant que guitariste pour les plus grands artistes de musique Antillaise, notamment Jacky Rapon, Lea Galva, Jocelyn Delormeau, Thierry Cham, Leila Chico, Sonia Dersion et la regrettée Edith Lefel. À Montréal, il a été le guitariste de Lorraine Klaasen, Lilison Di Kinara, Gage, Inword, Nathalie Choquette, et il accompagne des grands noms de la musique africaine tels que Sekouba Bambino et Monique Seka.

Wesli et son band a notamment joué en première partie de Tiken Jah Fakoly, Magic System à L’Olympia de Montréal, ainsi qu’en première partie d’Alpha Blondy au Métropolis. Depuis 2008, Wesli et son band se sont produits régulièrement sur plus de 50 des plus grandes scènes festivalières du Canada, assurant ainsi une trentaine de spectacles chaque été et participant à de nombreuses émissions radio et télévisées dont Belle et Bum, Des et Studio 12…Chanteur et multi-instrumentiste, Wesli assure la direction et la production artistique de plusieurs projets dont Sénaya (Garde la tête haute, 2005) et Sara Rénélik (Aube, 2006) et assure le poste de directeur musical pour la troupe Line 1.

Riche d’une importante expérience musicale et d’un parcours de vie atypique, Wesli, chanteur, multi-instrumentiste et producteur engagé sort son premier album en tant qu’artiste solo en 2009 “Kouraj”. Il livre une musique riche, à la fois festive, originale et entraînante. “Kouraj” évoque la misère qui perdure en Haïti, dans plusieurs pays des Antilles, de l’Afrique et d’ailleurs, des enjeux sociaux-politiques et environnementaux qui découlent de cette misère et du courage qu’il faut continuer à entretenir. Les arrangements colorés, la présence d’instruments africains (la Cora, le Balafon, la Calebasse, le Talking Drum) et de percussions haïtiennes (Manman tambou, Segon, Kata), les solos de guitares et de saxophones viennent intensifier et illustrer les propos de ce projet qui se veut à la fois divertissant et exigeant.

Qualifié de « réussite exemplaire façonnée avec des moyens dérisoires », l’album est coté 4 étoiles dans le magazine Voir et est nominé dans la catégorie Album de musique du monde de l’année aux Prix de la musique Folk canadienne en 2009.

Wesli devient l’un des artistes montréalais les plus prometteurs: « l’une des principales forces de frappe de la world montréalaise: peut-être même l’artiste le plus prometteur pour l’arène internationale. » 2. En formation acoustique (guitare, voix, percussion) ou avec son big band, le public est conquis et les critiques s’emballent: « la plus redoutable créature world qu’offre actuellement Montréal au reste de la planète »3, « Wesley Louissaint, ce troubadour-né dont la machine à groove surchauffe avec naturel l’afrobeat, le reggae, le rock et le rara d’Haïti dans la même grosse étuve épicée. » 4.
