August 22nd – Gonaïves, Haiti… by the Grace of the Almighty a blessed One was born

Named Gasmann Pier, Gaspard’s son my late father.

Renowned artist, better known by the pseudo Gazzman Couleur, singer, songwriter and producer. Proudly born in the very city where my country’s independence took place, to a mother who owned a business and a father who was part politician, activist and football player. Fatherless at four, I never had the chance to meet him … vague memories of a great man remains.

A family passionate about soccer, me and my brothers played for years. In fact, my older brother Sonche Pierre, my role model, was the head coach of the Haitian national football team.

My mother Anociade Saint-Juste, the first woman who’ve shown me what love is and taught me to love. She has remained my guiding light throughout my lifetime and my greatest certainty when everything else crumbled at times in my life. Constant and strong, unwavering, my comfort, patient, indulgent, compassionate and understanding.

Mom, thank you for always being there for me… Your soothing strength was everything to me.

After my father passed away, in the hope of finding a better life for them, she made the difficult choice to relocate my older siblings to America while keeping me by her side, in her care in Haiti, being the youngest of my family. In the long run, the absence of my siblings from my life ended up affecting my well-being in a significant way. Almost a decade later, due to growing political instability and insecurity in Haiti, she eventually gave in and ultimately sent me to the United States as well, reuniting all of her children in America, without her.

The first years in America I lived with my older brother, Guerdes. When he moved to Naples, I went to stay with my sister Moumoune until her untimely death. After this ordeal, I went to stay with my brother Sonche who shortly afterwards went back to settle in Haiti. Subsequently, I transferred to the home of my last big brother Arioste.

As the years went on, my attention and commitment was devoted to school and a part-time job as well all my spare time was dedicated to soccer. Unfortunately a knee injury in 1995, paused me from playing for a one (1) year break. Devastated, inconsolable and miserable at being deprived of such an important part of my life, I turned to my first passion : music … thus my career as an artist began!

At the end of 1995, I wrote and produced my first album entitled “An Nou Fèl a 2” with the support of Naser Chery, Felder Antoine, Fred Paul and Doff Chancy.

I joined Tah Pajj of Jean Herard Richard (Richie) in 1996 and later formed D-zine with Arly Lariviere and Francis Thelismond in 1997.

The year 2000 will see me create the group Nu Look with Arly Lariviere, Francis Thelismond and Richard Urbain.

“Better to die misunderstood than to spend a lifetime explaining yourself”, from this mantra in 2010 was born “diSIP de Gazzman Couleur” concept. Supported ever since by my friend and mentor Patrick Fabre, whom in his wisdom has persisted faithful by my side.

Short flashback saw that in 2002, my brother Arioste was imprisoned because of his involvement in drugs. In 2004, this ordeal culminated in one of the worst of my life. As I am leaving for Nu-Look’s annual summer tour, his face emerged as the sudden appearance of the last passenger to board my flight : dressed in a bright orange suit, handcuffed and shackled – Arioste … being expelled from the United States to Haiti. Stunned, frozen in my seat, this experience strained my psychic for life as this mental picture never left.

From the very beginning, I was influenced by legendary artists such as Ti Manno, Bob Marley, Michael Jackson, Roger Colas and Ansy Derose.

Throughout my career as a singer, my inspiration was ceaseless by many other artists such as Coubano, Shoubou, Giordany, Alpha Blondy, Ralph Thamar, Jean Luc Guanel, Eddy François, Dadou Pasquet, André Dejean, King Kino, Gracia Delva, Emeline Michel, Fabrice Rouzier, Don Kato, Jean Herard Richard (Richie), Ansyto Mercier, Jean Philippe Marthely, Jean Claude Naimro, Daniel Jean Baptiste, Marvin Winans, Marvin Sapp and BIC to name just a few … without overlooking the next generation’s yougnins TroubleBoy, MechansT and WendyyyKing.

Mindful of being loved and adored by many fans, in return I love ALL of them just as much.

I am blessed to have fulfilled my dream as a renowned artist and I thank God for this huge gift and blessing.

I had the honor of being the first and only HMI singer to achieve major success with three (3) different bands: D-zine, Nu Look and diSIP. My gratitude does not dry up.

My Strength is my ability to recognize my own weaknesses.

My Weakness is my tolerance to accept others and meet them where they are.

This is who I am. Do not ask me to change.

This Quality is mine, No one can change it.

My main objective as a human being is to bare no resentment and grudges against anyone.

I implore GOD to never let my puerile sense be used as a ploy against me.

In 2016 my mother passed away, and hence as the last born in my family, I became a lone star in a foreign land.

Under my speck as a singer, songwriter and producer, 4 records birthed : Mission (August 2010), VikTwa (July 2013), Klere Yo (May 2016) and Loreya (June 2019).

Acclaimed by music lovers of all categories, history in due course will claim the epic of my career and recognize a unique talent.

The epitome of every artist is his indelible mark in the writings of his art … my song “Legacy” is MY heritage, “J’ai brûlé les étapes” MY biography and “Psaumes 150”, the pinnacle of my timeless inspiration.

Music is my passion… On stage, my refuge!
