Michel Tassy was born in Cap Haitien on September 30, 1944. He studied in Cap Haitien on the one hand with the Brothers of Christian Instruction and on the other hand at Oswald Durand College until the baccalaureate.

Very young, he started in the Anacaona group of Camille Jean where he spent seven months as a young singer. But he was also taken in spinning by the maestro Ulrick Pierre-Louis who saw him regularly in the environment of Septent. On November 30, 1963, on the occasion of St Charles au Borgne, Ulrick had him sought by his friend “Lassosse “Thus known who currently lives in the USA to perform during the evening. Tassy hesitated because he was afraid to replace people. The maestro had finally convinced him and the first music he sang that day was “Ti nanie” which is not recorded on any compact disc.

He was married in 1980 to Milot to Odile Gilles and is the father of three children: two daughters Marline and Guirlène and a boy, Jean Robert. He was in fairly good health. He is a devout Catholic, a heavy smoker. He has been drinking alcohol at times for some time. Trade is his favorite pastime.

His best friend in the orchestra was his tutor Roger Colas. It was he who had written with his own hand the first text that he was to sing in Le Borgne. When Colas was to die on September 14, 1986, after that fateful evening at the International Club, they had made the trip together from Cap-Haitien in Tassy’s car. They were personally picked up at Delmas 75 in the evening to go at the International Club. After the ball, he told Tassy that he could leave and that he will stay for a few drinks with friends. They had therefore made an appointment for the next day but it was their last moment spent together. Tassy had heard the news of Roger’s death in the middle of Sunday day with great emotion.

Tassy is not a composer but he made arrangements in certain music by Alfred Moïse especially. He can dance but takes much more pleasure in making people dance. His favorite music is Bois-Caïman written and orchestrated by Ulrick Pierre-Louis. Each time he sang this composition, his whole body quivered as if he had drank a bottle of rum all at once.

Tassy recognizes herself as a charming singer, especially at carnival and an extraordinary entertainer who can motivate people to start dancing. He has his own music but he sings any song. He also enjoys watching the young singers evolve. The music that most marked him is “Ti fi a levé” by Alfred Moïse. It’s a frenzied rhythm that puts ants in your legs, from Alfred to today …

After 50 years, there are still pleasant surprises in store for fans of Septen and those of Tassy, because the orchestra must continue to progress. He feels a sense of pride for this fame he has acquired both as a musician and as a citizen. He received several decorations, especially abroad. The few rare decorations he has received in the country come from some associations and certain individuals; but he received no attention from either the government or the Haitian state.

He has modeled his entire artistic life on three singers who have marked his entire career out of love, admiration and as elders; these are the immortal Roger Colas, the nightingale Gérard Dupervil who later became his personal friend and Tico Valdès. Roger Colas will never die as long as I live he says… ”
