Boulo Valcourt was born in Cap-Haitien on February 12, 1946. He began to sing and play the guitar at the age of 16. The first group he formed ” les copains ” marked a crossroads in Haitian music. At the age of 18 he left for Canada where he studied electronics and aviation. During his stay there he set up a group called ” the Caribbean ” in 1971 in New York he started another group called ” Ibo Combo ”. Upon his return to the country in 1975, he formed a group called “ Horizon 75 ” which brought a breath of Jazz into Haitian music. Two years later he was called as a singer and guitarist in the group “Caribbean Sextet”. In 1986 he won the 1st prize and received a gold plaque at the Troubadour International festival in Curaçao, the following year in 1987, he won the 2nd prize and received a silver plaque at the same Troubadour International festival. He is recognized as the international troubadour of Haiti, with a track of a certain originality, guitarist, soloist and accompanist with a very Jazzé play. Since then, he has represented Haiti all over the world.
