Without a doubt, KLASS is currently reigning over the Haitian Music Industry as the “best band.” With less than five years under their belt, KLASS has taken the industry in a chokehold and refuses to let go. If their last two singles are any indication of what’s to come in their upcoming album, every other band vying for the number one spot might want to start calling “Houston” because there’s a problem – and it’s called KLASS. The last time the industry saw something like this was when a band named CaRiMi burst onto the scene. Don’t get it twisted;…

The musical group DAT7 will be in the spotlight on Haitian soil for their very first live “baptism of fire” performance, set to honor two contracts on March 12 and 13, 2016. It’s worth noting that DAT7 officially introduced itself in Haiti a year earlier, on Tuesday, March 10, 2015, at the Royal Oasis PV hotel, where the group revealed two “Test Pressing” tracks to public and media appreciation: Depozit and Se Konsa. The DAT7 formation is expected in Haiti on March 12, where the group will perform at the Royal Oasis hotel in tandem with the group Kreyol La,…

An evening of tribute to “Eric Charles” was organized jointly between the “Mardi Alternative” team and Radio Télé Galaxie last evening at Delmas 31. Several artists and musical groups stood out with their presence last night in the gardens of Radio Tele Galaxie, they produced quite a few hit songs by Eric Charles. The entire war machine of the Mizik Mizik formation accompanied by other musicians and instrumentalists performed live almost all the best compositions and the pens of the star of “Mizik Mizik” in this case “Eric Charles”. Radio hosts, cultural operators, big molars from the Haitian political world,…
Roody Roodboy and Rutshelle Guillaume’s once celebrated relationship has turned into a public controversy that has caught the attention of many within and outside the Haitian music industry. The couple, initially admired and even graced the cover of Ticket Magazine, saw their personal issues exposed, involving accusations of infidelity and domestic violence. The trouble began when Rutshelle was accused of cheating, leading to heated confrontations that culminated in an explosive breakup. Rumors circulated after Rutshelle’s angry audio clip was leaked, where she denied the allegations and insisted that she and Roody were still together. However, Roody later confirmed their separation…
When you’ve been in the Haitian music industry for a long time, you begin to anticipate certain moves. You learn to read between the lines. Recently, OpaMusic reported that Micky would be performing at Café Iguana during Compas Festival weekend. While Café Iguana is a decent venue, wouldn’t Compas Festival itself be a more significant platform for a former Haitian president like Micky to make his musical comeback? It’s likely there are secret negotiations happening between Micky and the festival organizers. Here are some key questions to consider: Will the public embrace or reject the idea of Micky performing at…
The Dominican Republic is the only oppressed country that celebrates its “independence” from another oppressed, colonized country, Haiti. For generations, the fear-mongering, racist Dominican ruling class has deliberately manipulated the history of the two countries, particularly the period between 1822 and 1844, in order to perpetuate el anti-Haitianismo (anti-Haitian racism). The truth is that Haitians have never been responsible for the inequality and the dismal socio-economic conditions that exist in the Dominican Republic. Imperialism and a handful of elite families —the Vicinis, Bonettis, Barcelós, and Brugals, among others— who drape themselves in the Dominican flag and engage in a shamefaced, rhetorical admiration…
Haiti had been without a president for a week when, on a Sunday in February 2016, a coalition of politicians and business leaders chose an interim leader to fill the void. The decision temporarily stalled a deepening political crisis in the nation of more than 10 million people. For many Haitians, presidents have not always been a source of stability. Since independence from France in 1804, Haiti has seen 45 leaders, most of whom ruled with heavy hands, enriched themselves, suppressed opposition, violated human rights, and governed with impunity. “They don’t really want to work for the Haitian people,” said…
