Black Parents, the celebrated Haitian-Canadian group from Montreal known for their groundbreaking Ragga Konpa style, is making a powerful comeback with a bold and captivating new project titled Agréable. This upcoming release is more than just a new album, it is a testament to the group’s ability to evolve while remaining firmly rooted in the rich Konpa tradition that shaped them.
Formed in 1999 by siblings Dave (vocals), Wesley (vocals), Mario (bass), and Béatrice (drums), Black Parents has always been a true family affair. Their passion for music runs deep, inherited from their parents and uncles, famously known as Les Frères Parent, a popular Haitian group in the 1970s. Drawing from this legacy, Black Parents introduced a refreshing fusion of Konpa and Reggae they proudly call Ragga Konpa. Their debut single, Sensuel, from the album Sensualité, became an instant hit, captivating audiences with a style that was fresh, youthful, and undeniably original.
After their breakthrough, Black Parents took their music far beyond Montreal. They performed extensively across Quebec, France, Martinique, and the United States, gracing major stages such as the Festival Nuits d’Afrique in Montreal, Festival de Granby, Carnival in Haiti, Haitian Flag Day in Miami, and the Haitian Caribbean Festival in New York.
The group expanded in 2004 with the addition of Julien (keyboardist), whose impressive musical background included collaborations with renowned world music artists like Lorraine Klassen. Julien quickly made his mark, composing You’re My Number #1 for the group’s third album — a track that became another major hit by late 2005. The song’s popularity was boosted by a high-quality music video filmed in Montreal. That same year, Black Parents was awarded Best Haitian Group of the Year.
Their momentum carried into 2006 with the release of Original Haitian Singers, featuring the single Vacances, which became a radio hit across Haiti, North America, and the Caribbean. The album’s success earned them the Best Album of the Year award at Haiti’s Ticket Magazine Music Fair in November 2006.
Now, nearly two decades after their debut, Black Parents is ready to embark on a new era. Agréable is set for release on August 20, 2025, and on the same day, the group will host an official press conference to present the album to media and fans.

Black Parents, le groupe haïtiano-canadien acclamé originaire de Montréal et reconnu pour son style novateur de Ragga Konpa, effectue un retour en force avec un projet audacieux et captivant intitulé Agréable. Cette nouvelle sortie n’est pas seulement un chapitre inédit dans leur parcours musical, c’est aussi la preuve de leur capacité à évoluer tout en restant profondément ancrés dans la tradition du Konpa.
Formé en 1999 par les frères et sœurs Dave (chant), Wesley (chant), Mario (basse) et Béatrice (batterie), Black Parents a toujours été une affaire de famille. Leur passion pour la musique vient de leurs parents et oncles, connus sous le nom de Les Frères Parent, un groupe haïtien populaire dans les années 1970. S’inspirant de cet héritage, Black Parents a introduit une fusion rafraîchissante du Konpa et du Reggae, qu’ils appellent Ragga Konpa. Leur premier single Sensuel, issu de l’album Sensualité, a été un succès immédiat, séduisant le public avec un style frais, jeune et unique.
Après leur percée, Black Parents a porté leur musique bien au-delà de Montréal. Ils se sont produits à travers le Québec, la France, la Martinique et les États-Unis, sur des scènes prestigieuses telles que le Festival Nuits d’Afrique à Montréal, le Festival de Granby, le Carnaval en Haïti, la Fête du Drapeau haïtien à Miami et le Haitian Caribbean Festival à New York.
