Following a short trial in Alhambra, California, the jury deliberated for less than an hour before delivering a verdict in favor of the rapper. Jurors concluded that Cardi B did not assault Ellis and was not liable for any damages.
During her testimony, Cardi B maintained that she never touched Ellis, saying she became upset only because the guard appeared to be videotaping her while she was visiting the doctor. At the time, the rapper’s pregnancy had not been publicly disclosed, and she testified that she felt her privacy was being invaded.
“I did not touch that woman, I did not lay my hands on that girl,” Cardi B told the jury. After the verdict was announced, she expressed relief and reiterated that she would consider pursuing legal action against what she called frivolous lawsuits in the future.
Legal observers noted that Ellis’s case was undermined not only by the lack of evidence but also by her own testimony, which included multiple contradictions. According to courtroom accounts, her lawyer’s conduct during the proceedings further weakened her credibility. While Ellis never had a strong case to begin with, the missteps in her legal representation only hastened the collapse of her claims.
The case had drawn national media attention not only because of Cardi B’s celebrity status but also due to the size of the damages being sought. Ultimately, the jury’s swift decision signaled that the evidence did not support the allegations made against her.
With the lawsuit behind her, Cardi B can now turn her attention back to her music career and ongoing projects, leaving a legal battle that threatened her reputation firmly in the past.
