Young Haitian Americans in America, more specifically in Miami, have yearned for their own music for years- that is, the music that their parents listened to on records and the youngsters grew accustomed to. But due to the language barrier and the negative stigmas reflected on the Haitian culture and music, the young Haitian population rejected their own music and culture, opting instead to listen to Hip-hop, R&B;, Reggae, even going as far as pretending to be anything but Haitian. So six years ago a young Haitian American set out to raise the self-esteem of Haitians in America.

The tool he used was the radio: first by getting on the air, then by changing the old format that the older generation used on the radio. His design took shape. Driven by fervent diligence, he worked his way up the radio ranks to become director of the rising radio station. His arduous labor proved not to be in vain, for he now has the most popular Haitian radio station in Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Orlando.

With such an interesting and rewarding accomplishment, I bet you’re wondering: hey!! Who is this person? What’s his name? Well, with no further delay, we would like to present to you our community very own Pascal F. Polynice, better known to you as DJ Paz, who has contributed in shaping the way young Haitian Americans look at themselves and also the way other races view us.

The positive effect on the young Haitian generation is simply an amazing sight in this new millennium it is surely a cool thing now to be Haitian in America and a good deal of the credit goes to DJ Paz who has courageously taken up the cause of putting the Haitian culture into the spotlight. Others, such as DJ Lucky, a stone cold hip-hop head, has embraced Haitian music so much so that he’s skillfully harmonized hip-hop flavor into the music of a hot new Haitian band called Nu-Look which, might we proudly add, is managed by none other but our featured guest, the one and only DJ Paz.

He’s not only doing his thing on the radio, but Pascal is also managing Nu-Look to a great beginning.
