Marie George Mettelus, also known by her stage name, Princess Georgy, is a singer, dancer, fashion designer, and businesswoman. In 1989, Princess Georgy began her singing career with the band, Zin at the age of sixteen. Over the years Georgy Metellus has been more than just one of the finest divas in the Konpa music industry. But It wasn’t Georgy’s sexy style nor dance moves that captured the attention of her fans or even her worse critics; it was her voice.

Georgy is loved by her fans and even her worse critics can’t help but take notice of this talented young and beautiful singer. During the Georgy era in Zin (I call it), Georgy brought a lot
of screaming fans to Zin at a time when her style was something new, almost unheard of. A young Haitian woman in a, Haitian band, with a sultry voice, electrifying dance moves, being the center of attention. Because she was marketed that way to attract male as well as female fans, she had what it took and the fans ate it up, and always came back for more.

Her song on the album “Manye’m entitled Kok, was the highlight of her music career; though several hits were to follow such as “Pale W Pale” “Koyo”… but it was “Kok” that made the fans and even her bandmates realized there was more to Georgy than just singing backup on their previous soundtracks. Of course, Georgy wasn’t an overnight success story.

Her music career began back in 1988 when she was originally set to be a member of the group Phantoms, a band that would later become Zin’s arch rival. Jensen Derossier, the band leader of Phantoms introduced Georgy to Alex Abellard, Zin’s band leader. When Alex met and heard the young diva sing, he automatically cut a deal with Jensen and Georgy ended up joining Zin.

As Georgy’s career progressed, it brought with it a lot of drama between her and her bandmates. They started having different opinions and views to a point where they no longer saw eye to eye which later led to her dismissal on two different occasions from the band.  When Georgy was let go from the band the first time due to reasons not officially disclosed, the media and the fans proved their love for her by going out of their way to call Zin productions, and calling in on TV shows begging for her return. Zin had no choice but to oblige by the fans’ demand.  Therefore, Georgy was back in the band only to part from the band once again for the last time.

Georgy later joined the band Phantoms, the same band she was originally supposed to have been a part of in the very beginning. She joined Phantoms while they were wrapping up their latest CD entitled “10 ans de sa” Georgy came just in time to throw in a track “Wayan” supposedly a song about her experience in Zin. However, her stay with Phantoms was brief and till today no real explanation has been released as to why this relationship did not last. But a lot of the critics, media and even her fans said it was the wrong career move for her due to the relationship between the two bands.

Since her departure from Phantoms, Georgy has not released an album but has been quoted saying a “twoubadou” is in the works.
