Musician, singer, son of Daniel Larivière, Arly Larivière was born on August 22 in Cap-Haitien. For him, music is a matter of blood, it’s hereditary. “I have been passionate about music since I was young. I was always by my father’s side when he was composing songs. My actions were guided by the music. Very young, I always took part in the rehearsals of Tropicana, an orchestra of which my father was the person in charge of musical direction. I played at my school’s musical formation which is “CND Express”. Then I was at Kazak Eksperyans, Lakòl, Feeling, D’Zine and Nu-Look. I have an interesting musical background. I left Haiti in 1994. I was not one of the people who had to leave the country. It was the experience of a youth team. Among all the Capois groups that I attended,

In 1994, he immigrated to the United States

“Arrived in the United States in 1994, I did not only make music, I did other things but, I had prioritized the music in order to encourage people to believe in what they do . I studied administration among other things. The businessman never talks, but the artist does, and that’s why I don’t talk about my personal life. I’m not talking about my home and my love life. I sell the artist who is on stage and that’s what I want people to remember. I am loved by more than one. I am what I am thanks to the feminine gender. I chose to give the impression that Arly is always accessible and available. When I cry, I have no explanation to give. I sing of melancholy. There are lived stories, just as there are fabricated ones. There is a mystery behind Arly Larivière. I want it to continue. I make a demarcation between the artist and the character Arly to protect my family, among other things, because not everyone loves you,” Arly said.

“Heavy compas”, first solo album produced by Arly in 1996 in Miami

The first action taken by Arly Larivière when he arrived in the United States in 1994 was the production two years later of the solo album “Heavy compas” with the participation of artists such as Michel Batista, Isnard Douby, King Kino, Georgy Mettelus etc. Immediately after, he joined Zenglen de Brutus which will give birth to D’Zine then Nu-Look.

From Zenglen Plus to D’Zine

“I must say that it was the separation of the Zenglen team that gave birth to Zenglen Plus. When we arrived in the studio, I said to myself that we have no connection with Zenglen, that we cannot produce in order to go to Haiti without Jean Brutus Dérissaint, Patrick Martineau or Gary Didier Perez. That’s how I came up with something new. So we chose to change the group’s name to D’Zine, which released “Anba’m chaje” as their first record with titles like “Italian”, “Yon oath”, “Apocalypse” etc., revealed Maestro Arly Larivière.

He formed Nu-Look in the year 2000

Arly Larivière doesn’t want to talk too much about D’Zine, which he considers a page turned in his career, while remembering the very good live album “Millionnaire” Vol I released in 1999 and the album “Match rèd” on which is engraved the tube “You and I”. Unfortunately, for reasons beyond Arly’s control, he says, he dropped D’Zine to form the group Nu-Look in 2000 to make production history, despite all the difficult times he had. he knew. And Nu-Look is divided into three versions, the one with Gazzman which lasted nine years. That of Pipo who spent 2 years there and since then, Arly has made the decision to continue as the only singer with the rest of the team. Today,

Nu-Look, the first version, was a very strong group in Haiti, i in the United States, and which marked many people with an Arly who sang love who charmed the girls and a Gazzman Couleur who sang hot temp . It was a perfect marriage. Many people appreciated this version even if it was unknown in the West Indies. It was Arly’s Nu-Look as the only singer who broke out in the West Indies with “Wasn’t meant to be” from the album “Confirmation” released in 2011 and which led the group to no longer just play for Haitians,” says Arly.

From 2000 to 2016, Nu-Look has six studio albums: “Big mistake”, “Still news”, “Abò”, “Confirmation”, “I got this” and “My time”. It is difficult for the singer to set his sights on an album or a song that he likes the most or that has marked him the most during the 18 years of existence of Nu-Look because, they have made their way and have good for the group, This is the case of “Loving you” which blocked the whole country, of the album “Abò” where everyone said that Nu-Look had reached its peak and of “Wasn’t meant to be” which confirmed the group and which gave a market that Nu-Look had never had before, rejoices the maestro.

Arly Larivière, only singer of Nu-Look after Gazzman and Pipo

After experience 1 and 2 respectively with Gazzman Couleur and Pipo, Arly Larivière says he made the decision himself to continue with Nu-Look by trying as the only singer. He knew his musical career was at stake if he failed again with this version. And despite many requests he had at the time for the Arly & Friends project, he followed his intuition. Finally the maestro has found his stability with Nu-Look and he is proud of it.

Nu-Look is not in competition with Klass and Disip

Regarding the controversy that everyone has been talking about for a few years between Nu-Look and Klass instead of that between Nu-Look and Disip, Arly Larivière specifies that he is not in competition with neither Klass nor Disip. “I work in an industry where everyone is fighting to position themselves. I have no problem acknowledging the value and importance they bring to the business, but to say there’s a direct controversy with a band wouldn’t make sense. Nu-Look will be 18 this year, from now on, I say it officially, we are not in competition with any musical group. It may happen that we compare the works of Arly Larivière and Richie as producers who have been very present on the market over the past 10, 15 years, but that does not automatically put us “face to face”. Some fans want it but I don’t want it because of the wickedness of some ”soldiers” who want to destroy. I play music. I don’t care what other people do. They can do the same too. However, I can make small jokes to encourage people to support us. It exists in business. If the competition was only musical, I would have no problem, but that has never been the case in the Haitian market,” assured Arly.

”Nu-Look, no stress”

It’s been about three months since Nu-Look released three songs: “Fè chèlbè”, “Cauchemar” and “Why now”. Very satisfied with the feedback of these three songs that the public sings during the live performances of the group for this summer tour, Arly Larivière announces that the seventh album of Nu-Look which will be entitled “Nu-Look, no stress” will be released soon. This disc, which will be produced by the group itself, for lack of an executive producer in the business for some time, will contain a dozen songs. Jacob Desvarieux from Kassav and a young Haitian artist who lives in New York and probably another young Haitian artist will participate on this album.

“Nu-Look, no stress”, was to be released on August 22 for his birthday but, because of the political problems that the country experienced at the beginning of last July, the date of this release has been redesigned, said King Arly .

Arly and Gazzman have a good relationship

Arly Larivière and Gazzman Couleur maintain good relations and talk to each other when they meet, as was the case last July in Montreal. As for those who are nostalgic for the Nu-Look of 10 years ago and who would like to see these two again in the same group and on the same stage for a performance, I tell you that these two former accomplices talk about very rarely. “We each work on our side with our group. I’m not saying that it wouldn’t be a great thing to have a ball in the future with all the former musicians, including Gazzman and me, but we haven’t thought about it yet”, concluded with a smile Arly Larivière, who will celebrate a new spring this August 22, and who is on tour in Haiti with his group Nu-Look for this summer season 2018 until August 26.
